FAQ
We are the original Cathedral Cove boat tour, operating since 1992. Departing directly from Hahei Beach, our small-group tours let you experience all the highlights of this incredible coastline in just one hour. We were also voted New Zealand’s #1 water activity in the AA 101 Must-Do Experiences.
Bookings are essential and tours over the summer period often sell out. To book phone 07 866 3910 or book online.
Departing from Hahei Beach allows us to access Cathedral Cove and the surrounding coastline quickly and efficiently, without long transits from distant harbours. It’s the most direct, scenic, and environmentally considerate way to experience the area.
Hahei Beach is approximately a 7-minute drive from Hot Water Beach, making it easy to visit both attractions in the same day.
The Hahei Explorer is the only dedicated Cathedral Cove boat tour permitted to depart directly from Hahei Beach, just a stone’s throw from Cathedral Cove, the Marine Reserve, and the Hahei Sea Caves.
This means less time travelling and more time experiencing the highlights of our stunning coastline.

Access to the Wai Ora Ana Blowhole depends on sea conditions and tides. For the best chance of visiting this blowhole, we recommend booking a tour within two hours either side of high tide.
When conditions don’t allow access, we visit a collapsed blowhole, which is a fascinating and unique feature in its own right.
Yes. Our tours are suitable for young children, including those aged 0–3 years. Safety is our top priority, and lifejackets are provided for all passengers.
Shade canopies restrict access to the sea caves, which are a highlight of the tour.
As the tour is only 1 hour long, sun exposure is minimal, and free sunscreen is provided at our departure point.
You are able to cancel or transfer your booking until 48 hours before your scheduled departure time. Cancellations made within 48 hours of your scheduled departure incur the full cost. If we cancel the trip due to weather conditions you will be refunded in full. If you booked via a travel agent then they will provide a full refund.
The best spot for swimming is Hahei Beach, there is a beautiful safe swimming area right by our departure point on the white sandy beach.
